Historic Collinsville to Host Bell Witch Presentation and Lantern Tour

Historic Collinsville Pioneer SettlementClarksville, TN – Historic Collinsville in rural Montgomery County has announced it will host a special presentation and lantern tour on Saturday, September 14th, from 7:00pm to 10:00pm, with Bell Witch researcher Pat Fitzhugh.

The previously announced “Storytelling By Day & By Night” event on September 14th has been canceled. However, Historic Collinsville will be open during its regular hours for general admission on September 14th, from 10:00am to 4:00pm.

Lantern-Lit Evenings and Pioneer Tales Await at Historic Collinsville’s September Event

Historic Collinsville Pioneer SettlementClarksville, TN – Historic Collinsville in rural Montgomery County has announced its special “Second Saturday” event for the month of September. Storytelling By Day & By Night will be held on Saturday, September 14th, and will take place in two parts – from 10:00am to 4:00pm and 6:45pm to 8:30pm.

From 10:00am to 4:00pm guests can visit storytelling stations throughout the pioneer settlement during their self-guided tour. Local storytellers and authors have been invited to share true stories from Montgomery County’s past, bringing history to life from the 19th century.

Historic Collinsville Announces ‘Family Field Day and Picnic’ Event

Historic Collinsville Pioneer SettlementClarksville, TN – Historic Collinsville in rural Montgomery County has announced its special “Second Saturday” event for the month of July. Family Field Day and Picnic will be held on Saturday, July 13th, 2024, from 10:00am to 4:00pm.

The Family Field Day and Picnic event allows visitors to experience games and activities popular in the 19th century. Guests will be able to compete in friendly outdoor games of Tug-o-War, horseshoe pitching, sack races and more.

Montgomery County Heritage Day Brings 1800s to Life at Historic Collinsville

Historic Collinsville Pioneer SettlementClarksville, TN – On Saturday, June 8th, 2024, Historic Collinsville in rural Montgomery County hosted its special “Second Saturday” event for June, celebrating Montgomery County Heritage Day. From 10:00am to 4:00pm, visitors were transported back in time to experience the unique lifestyle of Montgomery County in the 1800s.

Montgomery County Heritage Day provided a vibrant and immersive opportunity for visitors to delve into local history. Reenactors brought the past to life, portraying Civil War soldiers, civilians, and spies.

Historic Collinsville Announces ‘Planting Day’ Event

Historic Collinsville Pioneer SettlementClarksville, TN – Historic Collinsville Pioneer Settlement in rural Montgomery County has announced its special “Second Saturday” event for the month of May. Planting Day will be held on Saturday, May 11th, from 10:00am to 4:00pm.

Planting Day offers visitors a chance to exercise their green thumb and share their passion for gardening as flowers, herbs, and vegetables are planted throughout the site. Plants will be provided. Guests are invited to bring their own gloves and small gardening tools, including trowels for digging or hand cultivators for breaking up the soil. Plant and soil donations are welcome.

Historic Collinsville to Celebrate Season Opening April 13th

Historic Collinsville Pioneer SettlementClarksville, TN – Historic Collinsville in rural Montgomery County will open its annual season on Saturday, April 13th, 2024, featuring hands-on activities for all ages from 10:00am to 4:00pm as well as the newly opened Weakley House Museum.

The community is invited to a special ribbon-cutting ceremony commemorating the opening of the Weakley House Museum on Friday, April 12th, at 2:00pm.

Visitors on April 13th will experience “Full STEAM Ahead,” a special theme for opening day with activities and programming featuring science, technology, engineering, art, and math (“STEAM”) projects alongside skilled tradesmen and period-dressed docents. Guests can become part of the past and interact with antiques as they explore the grounds and rooms of the historic buildings. All activities are included with special event admission.

Visit Clarksville Announces ‘Create at Collinsville’ Event Series

Visit Clarksville TennesseeClarksville, TN – The Clarksville Arts & Heritage Council, Two Rivers Society of Painters, Downtown Artists Co-op, and Visit Clarksville will host Create at Collinsville, a weekend celebration of traditional Tennessee arts in September 2023. Artists are invited to participate in events throughout the next several months, including workshops, a Plein air paint-out, a community quick draw, and a photography contest.

Two free workshops will be held on Saturday, September 16th at Historic Collinsville Pioneer Settlement. Award-winning artist, Kitty Harvill, will conduct a plein air workshop from 10:00am until 4:00pm.

Historic Collinsville Announces Family-Friendly Fall Events

September 18, 2022

Visit Clarksville TennesseeClarksville, TN – Hear live music and history at Historic Collinsville’s Picnic & Pickin’ event on September 24th, 2022. The event will begin at 11:00am and run until 3:00pm.

In addition to the live music from a 19th-century style string band and tours of the 16 buildings on site, guests are welcome to watch demonstrations of axe throwing, corn shelling, spinning and weaving, herbal medicine, and writing with dip pens.

Historians will be present to share stories and answer any questions. Tickets are $10.00 for ages 13 and above, $5.00 for children ages 6-12, and free for children ages 5 and under.
 
The pioneer settlement will be hosting another round of its children’s mini camps between October 13th and October 15th. The camps focus on three topics: Civil War code-breaking and intelligence gathering, the daily life of a Civil War soldier, and Civil War toys and games. Each camp cost $35.00 and runs from 9:00am until Noon.
 
Historic Collinsville’s final event of the season will be a family-friendly Halloween celebration on October 29th from 6:00pm-8:00pm. Spooky Stories and S’mores will feature three sessions of eerie tales from Montgomery County’s past.
 
The stories get progressively scarier throughout the night so guests can come and go as they please. S’mores kits will be provided to each guest to enjoy during the stories. Tickets are $10.00 for ages 13 and above, $5.00 for children ages 6-12, and free for children ages 5 and under.
 
About Historic Collinsville The pioneer settlement opened in 1974 to give children a “hands-on” experience outside of the classroom about life from the 1840s through the turn of the century. It has been open to the public since 1997, recreating the past with restored historical structures, each filled with authentic period furnishings that show a glimpse of life before and after the Civil War.
 
Once at Collinsville, guests can stroll through a re-creation of the past from the earliest “first home” to the expansive Dogtrot House, a tobacco-drying house, smokehouse, church/schoolhouse, wildlife center, loom house, cobbler’s shop, teacher’s home and more. Picnic tables are placed throughout the property and a covered pavilion with tables and restrooms is also on site. A visitor center greets guests and offers period souvenirs.

Historic Collinsville is located at 4711 Weakley Road, Southside Tennessee.

Montgomery County Government purchased Historic Collinsville from founders Glenn and JoAnn Weakley in 2018, who both passed away in September 2021. Visit Clarksville operates the property for the county.

Montgomery County Heritage Day to be held at Historic Collinsville Pioneer Settlement

Historic Collinsville now has Daily Guilded Tours available

Visit Clarksville TennesseeClarksville, TN – A visit to Historic Collinsville Pioneer Settlement can now include a guided tour. At no additional cost, visitors can register for a guided tour each Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

Tours begin at 1:00pm and require reservations. Daily groups are limited to eight individuals. Tours will not be available on special event days.
