F&M Investment Services - Raymond James - Clarksville, TNClarksville, TN – The August Employment Report was a little light of expectations. Nonfarm payrolls rose by 151,000 (median forecast: +180,000), with a net revision to June and July of only -1,000. Private-sector payrolls rose by 126,000 – a +150,000 average over the last six months (vs. +221,000 in 2015 and +240,000 in 2014).

The unemployment rate held steady at 4.9% (vs. 5.1% a year ago). Average weekly hours fell (and hours for July were revised lower). Average hourly earnings rose just 0.1%, up 2.4% y/y.

Call for Artwork Submissions for 2017 Arts & Heritage Cultural Calendar

Clarksville Arts and Heritage Development CouncilClarksville, TN – The Clarksville Arts & Heritage Development Council (AHDC) is putting out a call to artists who are interested in having their work featured in the ninth annual Cultural Calendar. Each month will feature an artist’s work and highlight upcoming arts and heritage events.

Submitted work will be juried to determine which piece is featured each month, as well as which artwork appears on the cover. As in years past, calendars will be available through AHDC’s website, as well as in the Customs House Museum’s “Seasons” gift shop and other locations around town.

Austin Peay State University professor Jack Deibert publishes book on historic 1868 survey of Wyoming

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – In 1871, geologist Ferdinand Hayden led the first federally funded geological survey into the Yellowstone region of northwestern Wyoming.

His findings, along with the work of his survey team, were instrumental in convincing Congress to establish Yellowstone as the first U.S. National Park, but a new book by Dr. Jack Deibert, Austin Peay State University professor of geology, sheds light on the historical significance of Hayden’s earlier journey into this region.
