Clarksville Writer's ConferenceClarksville, TN – Listening to Chuck Sambuchino at the Eighth Annual Clarksville Writers’ Conference was like getting the inside scoop on how to become famous. His expertise as an editor and writer at Writer’s Digest Books gives him the right to tell it like it is.

Editing the Guide to Literary Agents and Children’s Writer’s & Illustrator’s Market would be a full time occupation for most people, but Chuck has just signed the option for a movie deal for his first humor book, How to Survive a Garden Gnome Attack (2010) and is about to publish Red Dog/Blue Dog: When Pooches Get Political.

Fabric Outlet is open and ready to serve your needs

    By | May 22, 2012 | Print This Post

Clarksville, TN – “I’m so glad that you did not close!” is a common exclamation these days as customers arrive at Fabric Outlet, the not-to-be-missed purple building at 211 Holiday Drive in Clarksville. Current owners Rose Pollard and Joyce Turner rescued the business when the former owners decided they wanted to sell.

The announcement that “We’re going out of business!” was greeted by one customer with “But what will Clarksville do? What will the nation do!” as she couldn’t stand the thought of not being able to buy upholstery and drapery fabrics locally. When Rose and Joyce considered that alternative, they decided the only answer was to keep Fabric Outlet open and improve its offerings.

    Robert Penn Warren

Clarksville, TN – Ask the average college-bound high school student who Robert Penn Warren is and you might hear that the student has no idea that he was a writer.

Most probably the student wouldn’t be able to tell you that Warren was a graduate of Clarksville High School in 1921 or that he was born in Guthrie, Kentucky.

Even fewer would know that he is uniquely the winner of three Pulitzer Prizes, one for fiction and two for poetry; no other Pulitzer Prize winner can claim this accolade. «Read the rest of this article»

“Mom and Pop” Hilltop CB Foods Is Community Friendly

    By | January 9, 2012 | Print This Post

Hilltop SupermarketClarksville, TN – It’s a sad reality in our society. “Mom and Pop” stores of every kind are struggling to keep their doors open against their big box competitors. One store that is bucking this trend is the Hilltop CB Supermarket at 400 Highway 149. This locally owned and operated grocery store still has freshly butchered meat daily and runs sales that make it worth driving the extra few miles to take advantage of.

Wayne Hall opened the original Hilltop Supermarket, in a 5,000 square-feet building, across the street from its current location in 1967. In 1990, when the new store (then 12,000 square feet) opened where it now stands, Mr. Hall convinced his brother-in-law, Mike Jackson, to become store manager. Mike is still handling the day-to-day operations for the store which provides 50 jobs to the local economy.
