City officials are looking at options for subdivision drainage

City of ClarksvilleClarksville, TN – Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan met Thursday afternoon with Clarksville Street Department officials about drainage issues in Woodstock Subdivision.

After inspecting the situation at the subdivision Wednesday afternoon, Street Department staff members on Thursday explained the drainage issues there, as well as the complex history of the subdivision’s development. [Read more]

Health Department Expansion

Montgomery CountyMontgomery County, TN – The landscape of Madison Street will soon be receiving a new look. The building located at 1300 Madison Street, formally housing the United Way office, will be torn down in the coming days to make way for a Health Department expansion.

The new construction has been designed specifically to compliment the architectural style of the Madison Street Corridor. [Read more]

Hiller recognized for 35 years of city employment

City of ClarksvilleClarksville, TN – Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan joined with members of the city’s Information Technology Department on Tuesday, March 22nd, to recognize the 35th anniversary of Jeannie Hiller’s employment with the city. Hiller is the IT Department’s executive assistant.

“I’ve been here though several mayors,” Hiller told Mayor McMillan. “There were some good days and some bad days, but the good days outweighed the bad.”

City Budgeting Process

City of ClarksvilleClarksville, TN – In conjunction with Sunshine Week, Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan announces details of an open budgeting process that will include the public and will help residents better understand what goes into building a budget.

The Mayor and finance staff will have budget hearings for city departments and city-funded entities beginning April 11th at City Council Chambers. All hearings, workshops and meetings regarding the 2011-2012 Budget will be open to the public, and the proceedings will be digitally recorded and posted on the City’s website for those unable to attend. ‘Change your clock, change your battery’ for daylight saving time

Tennessee State Fire MarshalNashville, TN – Daylight Saving Time officially begins at 2:00am Sunday, March 13th. Be sure and set your clocks forward one hour before going to bed Saturday night.

As clocks move ahead this weekend for daylight saving time, Tennessee State Fire Marshal and Commerce & Insurance Commissioner Julie Mix McPeak would like to remind Tennesseans to change their homes’ smoke alarm batteries, as well.

“ ‘Change your clock, change your battery’ is an easy phrase to remember and practice, when you update your clocks this weekend,” says McPeak. “Smoke alarms, even those that are hard-wired, should have their batteries replaced regularly and be tested monthly to ensure you have the protection you need,” McPeak says. “Use this time to protect your home and family.” [Read more]

TDOT Announces Aeronautics Grants for 14 Tennessee Airports

$6,690,332 Provides for Infrastructure and Other Improvements

Tennessee Department of TransportationNashville, TN – The Tennessee Department of Transportation announced today that federal and state aeronautics grants totaling $6,690,332 have been approved for 14 Tennessee airports.

Clarksville’s Outlaw Field received a $300,000 grant.

Clarksville Police Department Put Six New Officers on the Payroll

Clarksville Police DepartmentClarksville, TN – Mayor Kim McMillan administered the Oath of Office to six new Police Officers for the Clarksville Police Department. Two of the new officers have already attended a Police Academy (Balazy, Bishop) and the other four new officers will attend the Police Academy in Donelson, March 13th-May 20th, 2011.

The new officers are Robert Thompson, Joshua Godwin, Lukasz Balazy (Certified officer), Seth Paugh, Paul Bishop (Certified officer), and Nathan Lee.

Archives Open House

Montgomery CountyMontgomery County, TN – Mark your calendars…the Montgomery County Archives Department is hosting an open house on Tuesday, February 22nd from 9:00am to 11:30am. This event will allow citizens to take a tour of the facility and give them a chance to see the wide variety of documents which are housed by Archives.

Montgomery County Archives provides knowledgeable people in the genealogy field that will assist a person in researching their family history and it also provides the numerous resources necessary for that research!

Applicants Sought for Citizen Police Academy

Clarksville Police DepartmentClarksville, TN – The Clarksville Police Department is taking applications for the next Citizen’s Police Academy (CPA) class which runs from March 29th – June 7th, 2011. Classes are held on Tuesday evenings from 6:30pm to 9:00pm.

The CPA covers all facets of the Police Department’s activities from administration to tactical operations. Citizens are given an opportunity to not only learn about Police Department functions, but also afforded a chance to participate in activities such as: police vehicle operations, firearms instruction, self-defense techniques, and use of force decision-making exercises.
