Both grew up fatherless in similar Baltimore neighborhoods and had difficult childhoods; both hung out on street corners with their crews; both ran into trouble with the police.

How, then, did one grow up to be a Rhodes Scholar, decorated veteran, White House Fellow, and business leader, while the other ended up a convicted murderer serving a life sentence?

Rivers and Spires 2012 Miss River Queen and Miss River Teen Crowned at Austin Peay State University

Rivers and Spires Festival 2012Clarksville, TN – Tara Zolfagharbik has been named Miss River Queen 2012, while Caitlin Campbell will reign as the new Miss River Teen. The new title holders were crowned at the pageants held Saturday, March 24th at Austin Peay State University’s Clement Auditorium.

The pair will reign over the Rivers and Spires Festival in downtown Clarksville, April 19th-21st, making numerous appearances, signing autographs and participating in Festival events.

Austin Peay State University Women’s and Gender Studies program presents “The Vagina Monologues” March 27th and 28th

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – This month, the Austin Peay State University Women’s and Gender Studies Program, the Feminist Majority Leadership Alliance and V-Day are celebrating 11 years of producing Eve Ensler’s award-winning play, “The Vagina Monologues.”

Rivers and Spires Festival 2012Clarksville, TN – The search is on for this year’s Miss River Queen and River Teen. The annual pageant will be held March 24th, 2012 in Clement Auditorium on the campus of Austin Peay State University. The pageant begins at 7:00pm, and doors open at 6:30pm.

Tickets are $10.00 per person and may be purchased at the door.

Award-winning CBS News correspondent to speak February 20th at Austin Peay State University

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – On August 25th, 2006, NBC Executive Producer Jeff Fagan poked his head into the dressing room at CBS studios.

“Good luck, you’ve come a long way to get here. You’ve earned it,” he said to Byron Pitts.

Pitts was about to make his first on-camera studio open for the CBS News Broadcast “60 Minutes.” Pitts thought to himself, “if only Fagan knew.” His mind flashed back to elementary school, when a therapist informed his mother, “I’m sorry, Mrs. Pitts, your son cannot read.

2012 Rivers & Spires FestivalClarksville, TN -This year marks the tenth anniversary of the Rivers & Spires Festival and officials are working to make the celebration be the biggest and best so far.

That is why everyone interested in being a part of the milestone birthday is encouraged to sign up and be a part of the Festival.
