APSU honoring 9/11 anniversary with community art exhibit

Clarksville, TN – This September, Austin Peay State University will commemorate the anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks with a special community art project, Honoring 9/11 through Art and Art Therapy.
The program, conceived by Ken Shipley, APSU professor of art, and Melody Shipley, ceramic artist, is designed to support and engage individuals reflecting on the sacrifices of those who died on September 11th, 2001, and to honor those who rose in service and continue to serve as a result of that tragedy.
APSU names experienced arts administrator as new CECA director

Clarksville, TN – On a cool evening in early February, dozens of people hurried across the Austin Peay State University campus to hear a lecture in the Trahern Building by Hollywood visual effects artist Colie Wertz.
The event, co-sponsored by the APSU Department of Art and Design and the APSU Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts (CECA), attracted attendees from across Clarksville, interested in hearing from a man who’d worked on films such as “Captain America: Civil War,” and “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.”

APSU student Paul Watkins pursues research on hybrid of math, art

Clarksville, TN – There are mathematicians and there are artists, and then there is the rare breed that find a way to merge two of the most seemingly disparate fields of study imaginable.
Austin Peay State University math major Paul Watkins does not resemble the “traditional” math student – with long hair and an even longer beard, Watkins looks more like the type who would be at home in an art studio.
APSU welcomes sound artist and TED Fellow Christine Sun Kim

Clarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University Department of Art and Design, with support from the APSU Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts, is pleased to welcome sound artist and two-time TED Fellow Christine Sun Kim to campus for a visiting artist lecture.
The lecture, which is free and open to the public, will begin at 7:00pm on Wednesday, March 2nd, in room 401 of the Trahern Building.
Austin Peay Visiting Writers Series welcomes essayist Ann Pancake on April 12th

Clarksville, TN – Author and essayist Ann Pancake, a native West Virginian with a bit of a wanderlust, has traveled the world in search of a story.
After graduating from West Virginia University, Pancake earned an M.A. in English from the University of North Carolina before teaching English in, among other places, American Samoa, Japan and Thailand. Even now, Pancake lives in Seattle, teaching in the low-residency MFA program at Pacific Lutheran University.
