Final Group of 2012 Working Towards Green Certification

Clarksville-Montgomery County Green Certification ProgramMontgomery County, TN – A seventh group of participants completed the Clarksville-Montgomery County Green Certification Program (CMCGCP) workshops this month.

The group began the process in October 2012 with plans to complete their certifications by April 2013.

Clarksville Montgomery County School System Teachers receive $20,000 Grant from Dow Corning Foundation

July 27, 2012

The Clarksville-Montgomery County School SystemClarksville, TN – The Dow Corning Foundation has approved a $20,000 grant to Clarksville-Montgomery County School System to fund the Teacher Extern Program, started this summer with 10 local industries, including Hemlock Semiconductor Group’s Clarksville site.

The program partners math and science teachers from CMCSS with engineers and industry professionals to better understand real life application of the subject they teach.

Clarksville-Montgomery County Green Certification ProgramMontgomery County, TN – The latest business to become Clarksville-Montgomery County Green Certified is the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System.

“We are pleased to see the school system continue to seek ways to minimize their environmental footprint, and at the same time maximize efficiencies where possible,” states Montgomery County Mayor Carolyn Bowers.

The Green Ribbon Cutting ceremony was held Wednesday, May 2nd at the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System’s Fuel Center, located on the campus of West Creek High School.

Come down to McGregor Park Tonight and Celebrate Independence Day

Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – The City of Clarksville and Aetna Insurance are joining together to celebrating our nation’s independence with the fourth annual Independence Day Celebration tonight down at McGregor Park. The event will be filled with food, fun and entertainment for the entire family. It all starts 6:00pm.

Local performers Tina Brown and Chris Robertson will provide live music throughout the evening, followed by country music artist, John Anderson. With more than 40 singles on the Billboard country music charts, Anderson has five Number Ones: “Wild and Blue,” “Swingin’,” “Black Sheep,” and “Money in the Bank.” The night will end with a spectacular fireworks finale, the largest in Clarksville.

Health Department Expansion

Montgomery CountyMontgomery County, TN – The landscape of Madison Street will soon be receiving a new look. The building located at 1300 Madison Street, formally housing the United Way office, will be torn down in the coming days to make way for a Health Department expansion.

The Green Zone Brings A Big Science Exhibit and Interactive Activities to Rivers & Spires

The Rivers and Spires FestivalClarksville, TN – During the Rivers & Spires Festival, April 14th-16th, a very special environmentally aware Green Zone area will be set up and will have booths dedicated to all things related to sustainable living.

Participating businesses and non-profits teach visitors about recycling, organic living, nature preservation and conservation. Each of the 12 booths will also have interactive entertainment for the whole family. This year’s Green Zone will have a fun, passport theme. Each booth will have an activity for kids to complete and once they do, their passport will be stamped. When the passport has been stamped by each booth vendor, it can be redeemed for a prize. And like all other activities at the festival, it’s free!

Bi-County Household Hazardous Waste Day April 9th

Montgomery CountyMontgomery County, TN – Bi-County Solid Waste Management will be having it’s Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day Saturday, April 9th from 8:00am – 2:00pm in the Veterans Plaza Parking Lot. Veterans Plaza is located at 350 Pageant Lane.

Items accepted from Montgomery County and Stewart County residents only. No commercial items will be accepted.

Batteries, oil, paint, anti-freeze and electronics will no longer be accepted since these items are accepted year round at the Bi-County Landfill located at 3212 Dover Road. [Read more]
