APSU alumna Montgomery County Mayor Carolyn Bowers inducted into Phi Kappa Phi Academic Hall of Fame

Clarksville, TN – The mayor of Montgomery County, who also is an Austin Peay State University alumna, was inducted into the Phi Kappa Phi Chapter 191 Academic Hall of Fame.
Mayor Carolyn Bowers (’68, ’79) was inducted Tuesday, April 10th during the APSU chapter’s initiation ceremony. As part of a permanent tribute, her name will be displayed on a plaque housed in the Woodward Library on the main campus.
Clarksville Pediatric Dentistry achieves Green Certification

Montgomery County, TN – The latest business to become Clarksville-Montgomery County Green Certified is Clarksville Pediatric Dentistry, located at 2297 Rudolphtown Road. A few examples of their initiatives include increasing their recycling by 25 percent, adding all recyclable items to be recycled.
They have also reduced waste by cutting all paper notifications that were sent via mail by 75 percent and using email notifications instead. By reducing waste and increasing their recycling, their office is using 192 fewer garbage bags per month.

Montgomery County Parks Department Receives Recreational Trails Program Grant

Montgomery County, TN – Montgomery County Government was recently awarded the Recreational Trails Program (RTP) grant from the State of Tennessee.
Of the $565,000 in grants awarded by the Environment and Conservation Department this week, Montgomery County received the largest award of $120,000. [Read more]
Highway Drive Tower Construction Update

Montgomery County, TN – Montgomery County Government is pleased to have assisted AT&T in receiving FAA approval for the tower construction on Highway Drive that includes the NOAA weather broadcasting system.
This approval was the final hurdle before the on-site tower construction could begin. Approval was received Friday morning and work began immediately to set a construction date.
Montgomery County announces Volunteer Stars Award Recipients

Montgomery County, TN – Congratulations go to H. Lynn Hunter and Trinity Beard for being selected the Montgomery County recipients for the 2011 Governor’s Volunteer Stars Awards.
Hunter and Beard will be recognized, along with other recipients from across the state, at a reception in Nashville on February 27th and both will be honored tonight during the February County commission meeting with proclamations from County Mayor Carolyn Bowers.

Clarksville, TN – Yesterday morning Publix held the grand opening and ribbon cutting for their newest location, the store is the first of three Publix locations planned for our area. Shoppers started lining up outside the store with the first arriving around 3:00am, and the bulk starting to arrive around 5:00am for the 6:45am ribbon cutting.
The Clarksville-Area Chamber of Commerce conducted the ribbon cutting with Store Manager Norman Rubio Jr. doing the honors, with Montgomery County Mayor Carolyn Bowers and Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan holding the ribbon.
Miller-Motte Technical College to hold Ribbon Cutting for Surgical Technology Suite’s New Name and New Equipment

The surgical technology suite now has two complete beds, mannequins and sets of instruments along with a state of the art laparoscopy tower that provides high quality digital images for arthroscopy and endoscopy procedures.

Montgomery County Animal Control and Adoption Services Hosts Successful Adoption night

Montgomery County, TN – Montgomery County Animal Control and Adoption Services hosted its first ever “Adoption Night” as part of their new operating hours that began January 1st. Last night’s event yielded 33 citizens visiting the facility and six adoptions.

WIC Clinic Construction Update

Montgomery County, TN – The new Women, Infant and Children (WIC) Clinic is currently under construction and taking shape quickly. This week, the project reaches a critical milestone, as the tie in to the existing Health Department building will take place.
Over the previous weeks, passers-by have witnessed steel and roofing being erected, as well as the concrete slab being most recently poured for the project.
