Clarksville, TN – The City of Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department and the Friends of Fort Defiance will host the “March to the Past” event on Saturday, June 8th from 10:00am to 5:00pm and Sunday, June 9th from 1:00pm to 5:00pm at the Fort Defiance Interpretive Center, located at 120 Duncan Street.
Clarksville City Offices closed Monday, May 27th, 2013 for Memorial Day

Clarksville, TN – Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan is reminding everyone that the City of Clarksville offices will be closed on Monday, May 27th, 2013 in observance of Memorial Day.
“I ask all Clarksvillians to join me as we remember those heroes who make our nation safer and our community richer as well as those who have died defending us,” said Mayor Kim McMillan. “As we gather with family and friends this holiday, let’s thank those men and women who so quietly, honorably and professionally protect our freedom.”
City offices will re-open on Tuesday, May 28th, 2013 for regularly scheduled hours.

Clarksville to hold first-ever Civil War Summer Camp at Fort Defiance Interpretive Center

Clarksville, TN – The Fort Defiance Interpretive Center, located at 120 Duncan Street, is proud to host the City’s first Civil War Summer Camp for youth in the 5th and 6th grades.
The Civil War Summer Camp, instructed by Karel Biggs, focuses on the American Civil War. Students will learn more about the people, events, vocabulary, songs, food, drills, clothing and flags associated with the War.
Austin Peay State University Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts to host 9th Annual Clarksville Writers Conference

Clarksville, TN – The Clarksville Arts & Heritage Council is partnering with the Austin Peay State University Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts, the APSU President’s Office and the Tennessee Arts Commission to once again bring acclaimed authors and poets to town for the Ninth Annual Clarksville Writers Conference.
The event will be June 6th and 7th at the APSU Morgan University Center.

Montgomery County, TN – A National Safe Boating Week Proclamation was signed on April 30th, 2013 by Montgomery County Mayor Carolyn Bowers, and City of Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan declaring May 18th thru May 27th, 2013 a special week, as the busy season of water activities begin and the public participates in many water based recreational activities.

35th Annual Queen City Road Race is this Saturday

Clarksville, TN – The 35th Annual Queen City Road Race, scheduled for this Saturday, May 4th, is quickly approaching. Be aware that as the 5K and 7K race routes take runners through the streets of Historic Downtown Clarksville, there will be several road closures to accommodate the safety of the runners.
The south bound lane of North 2nd Street to Main Street will be closed as well as the eastbound lane of College Street, and University Avenue to 8th Street. Additional closures include Summer Street, Henry Street and the Dunn Center parking lot on the side facing Governors Stadium. [Read more]
