Clarksville, TN – The City of Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department is asking park-goers to vote for their favorite parks. Heritage Park is in the running for a $100,000 prize, but it needs votes, lots of votes!
Parks that receive the most votes will receive grants as part of Coca-Cola’s “America Is Your Park” national campaign to restore, rebuild or enhance our parks. [Read more]

DOE review shows City’s good job with grant

Clarksville, TN – The City of Clarksville recently received a favorable report for its administration of an Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant.
A Department of Energy team conducted a monitoring visit on July 12th in the city, and in its July 20th report, indicated no problems were found with the management of the federal grant, which was awarded in August 2008. [Read more]
Mayor joins effort to include jobs initiatives in debt limit agreement

Clarksville, TN – As the debate continues in Washington, D.C., over raising the nation’s debt limit, Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan recently join 49 other mayors from across the country to urge Congress and the President to include job creation initiatives in whatever agreement they reach.
Mayors from 50 cities, who gathered last week at the United States Conference of Mayors’ Summer Leadership meeting in Los Angeles, sent a letter to President Obama and the leadership of both the House and Senate that called on them “to consider the impact of your agreement on the overriding priority of job creation. Albright named Clarksville Fire Rescue Deputy Chief

Clarksville, TN – Howell Albright, a 35-year veteran of Clarksville Fire Rescue, has been named Deputy Chief of the department.
Fire Chief Mike Roberts and Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan announced Albright’s appointment to the position at Thursday’s City Council Executive Session.
Albright, 57, is a Clarksville native and the longest serving member of the fire department. He had been Chief of the Training Division for the past 15 years.
Clarksville not selected as Most Patriotic City

Clarksville, TN – The City of Clarksville was not selected as the winning city in the Most Patriotic category of the Rand McNally-USA Today Best of the Road contest.
The announcement, which named Rapid City, SD, as the category winner, came today at the Destination Marketing Associations International conference in New Orleans.
Rapid City was selected as the winner from the six finalist cities in the Most Patriotic category, which included Clarksville, TN; Williamsburg, VA; Peachtree City, GA; Emporia, KS; and Fort Leonard Wood, MO. [Read more]
Mayor Kim McMillan to Announce Fitness Council Members

Clarksville, TN – Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan will announce members of the Mayor’s Fitness Council at a July fitness event at 5:00pm Wednesday at Smith Pool.
Following the City Council’s approval on July 7th to establish the Fitness Council, McMillan will appoint the members to the new board, which will take a pro-active, multi-faceted approach to helping residents achieve and maintain a healthier lifestyle via education, becoming more active and proper nutrition. Select City Pools to remain open through Labor Day Weekend

Clarksville, TN – The City of Clarksville Parks and Recreation is extending the season of two of the five City pools this summer. Beachaven Pool and New Providence Pool will remain open Friday evenings, as well as Saturdays and Sundays through September 4th.

Justice Assistance Grant Public Comment Session

Clarksville, TN -The City of Clarksville and Montgomery County intend to submit a joint application for the 2011 Byrne Justice Assistance Grant in the amount of $89,798, with the funds to be shared equally by the County and the City for traditional law enforcement and crime prevention activities. Any person wishing to make a comment is invited to attend a public comment period July 18th, 2011 at 1:00pm.

Jammin’ in the Alley Concert Series to feature first-ever “Night Market”

Clarksville, TN – On Friday, July 15th, the Clarksville Downtown Market will hold its first-ever “Night Market” in conjunction with the City of Clarksville and U.S. Bank’s popular summer concert series Jammin’ in the Alley.
More than a dozen vendors from Clarksville’s weekly Downtown Market will be set up along Strawberry Alley from 5:00pm to 8:00pm selling a variety of homegrown and homemade items.
