Recreation thanks volunteers for help in National Trails Day Cleanup

Clarksville, TN – The City of Clarksville Parks & Recreation Department would like to thank those who participated in the National Trails Day cleanup at the Clarksville Greenway on June 4th. The following people and organizations helped with clearing brush, limbs and other debris from the Clarksville Greenway.

A Power Breakfast will be held at Riverview Inn, 50 College Street, on June 9th at 7:30am. Rudy Kalis will serve as the keynote speaker for this event. From his humble beginnings as a 5-year-old German immigrant, Emmy award winner Rudy Kalis has garnered a long and exciting career as one of the nation’s premiere sports newscasters. City and County Administrators Discuss Sustainability with Specialists in Chattanooga

Montgomery County, TN – In the ongoing effort to promote environmental sustainability in Clarksville and Montgomery County, City of Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan and Montgomery County Mayor Carolyn Bowers sent administrators to meet with Chattanooga’s Sustainability Office to learn about their environmental practices.
Employees with the Chattanooga Office of Sustainability spent the day with City Chief of Staff Charlie Koon, Director of Administration Phil Harpel and Clarksville-Montgomery County Green Certification Program Manager Michelle Newell, explaining their climate action plan and how they work with the community to implement changes.

Members of the City of Chattanooga Sustainability Team met in their planning room to share their sustainability planning with the visitors from Clarksville. Summer Youth Program to begin June 6th

Clarksville, TN – The City of Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department Summer Youth Program will begin June 6th with the opening of program sites and will end July 15th.
The Summer Youth Program is a six-week day camp-type program that is offered each summer to youths, ages 6-16. Gyms at various locations are staffed with directors and assistants, who will help with playtime activities and provide free, instructional classes such as dance and karate.
Walking Event to Kick Off Mayor’s Fitness Council

Clarksville, TN – Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan will lead a group of residents on her first “Walks with the Mayor” at 1:30pm Tuesday, May 17th from the Ajax Turner Senior Center, 953 Clark Street. The monthly walks will be part of the Mayor’s Fitness Council that will be established to promote healthier lifestyles and choices among people in the community. [Read more]
Clarksville Mayor Observes National Nursing Home Week

Clarksville, TN – In observance of National Nursing Home Week, May 8th through May 14th, Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan visited two local nursing homes on Monday and presented proclamations.
“Citizens of Clarksville who now reside in local nursing homes have contributed greatly to the heritage, success and growth of our community,” McMillan said. “Nursing home residents of any age or ability are now themselves living history and a precious resource.”
Jammin’ in the Alley Concert Series Kicks off its Fourth Season

Clarksville, TN – The City of Clarksville together with U.S. Bank will soon be Jammin’ in Strawberry Alley once again. Join us on Friday, May 20th to kick off Jammin’ in the Alley’s fourth year in downtown Clarksville. This event takes place the third Friday of every month through October.
This month’s free concert features Tennessee’s premier Journey tribute band, Chain Reaction. This band began from a simple dare. While at a karaoke competition several years ago, a friend of the band’s lead singer Ryan Christopher, dared him to sing Journey’s song, “Don’t Stop Believin’,” to win the contest. Christopher was shocked how natural he felt performing the song and from that moment, he began his quest. He formed Chain Reaction with musicians Greg Vass, guitar/backing vocals; Tommy Hall, bass/backing vocals; Gene Powers, keyboards; Mike Seay, drums; and sound engineer Mark McCuiston. [Read more]
