Fort Defiance to host “Sevier Days” pre-Civil War event

Fort Defiance Interpretive CenterClarksville, TN – The Fort Defiance Interpretive Center, located at 120 Duncan Street, is excited to present “Sevier Days,” an 18th century, pre-Civil War event, Saturday, September 27th, 2014 from 10:00am to 5:00pm.

This event will focus on the historical frontier and colonial period of Clarksville and will feature reenactors, flintlock musket firing demonstrations, a flint knapper making Indian arrowheads, and an authentic blacksmith operation and frontier camp life.

APSU professors publish Civil War diary about life in Clarksville

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – On a cold night in February 1862, the moans and whimpers of injured Confederate soldiers filled the streets of Clarksville.

Hospitals had been set up in local buildings to treat the wounded, following the Battle of Fort Donelson in nearby Dover, and whispered rumors claimed the Union army was heading for the city.

EnvisionWashington, D.C. – Outstanding middle school students from across the United States took part in an extraordinary leadership development experience, the 2014 Junior National Young Leaders Conference (JrNYLC): Foundations of Leadership I, an Envision program.

The program provides a historical view of leadership and encourages young scholars to develop their own leadership skills and strategies for success in the 21st century.

Friends of Fort Defiance’s March into the Past provides a look into yesteryear at the historic Civil War site

Friends of Fort DefianceClarksville, TN – The Friends of Fort Defiance held their annual March to the Past fundraiser at the Fort Defiance Interpretive Center at the historic Civil War site in the New Providence area of Clarksville Tennessee on Saturday June 14th.

William Parker of the Clarksville Department of Parks and Recreation who serves as the historical interpreter for Fort Defiance and the director of the Visitor Center appreciates their actions on behalf of the site. “The Friends of Fort Defiance of been in existence for much longer than the visitor center has been here,” he said. “It’s probably been 20 years that they have been around and each year they hold their March into the Past fund-raising event.”

Live demonstrations of quilting, firing, clothing, and medicine will be sure to give the community a clear depiction of the Civil War era.
