The City of Clarksville kicked off the 2012 Christmas on the Cumberland on Tuesday

Clarksville, TN – The City of Clarksville kicked off the 14th Annual Christmas on the Cumberland on Tuesday, which continues until January 1st. The annual free holiday display features over 1,000,000 individual Lights in a amazing Christmas display that spans the entire length of McGregor Park in Downtown Clarksville.
This has become one of the most popular events held on the banks of the Cumberland River in Historic Downtown Clarksville, second only to the Riverfest Celebration held in September. It draws thousands of people per day down to the banks of the Cumberland River to enjoy the Christmas lights with family and friends.
Handcrafted Holidays is a new Holiday tradition for Clarksville

Clarksville, TN – The Wilma Rudolph Event Center, located at Liberty Park, played host to “Handmade Holidays,” a Crafters Bazaar which featured holiday-themed handmade and handcrafted items. It featured more than 40 booths of crafts, art, jewelry, pottery, quilts, soaps, and more.
Matthew Nixon of the Clarksville Department of Parks and Recreation said, “The idea for the Handmade Holidays event was the brainchild of the team behind the downtown market. Towards the end of the season. We knew that the market was going to be closing and we wanted to see if a craft show such as other entities have, would work here in Clarksville. So we scheduled it in the new Wilma Rudolph Event Center, and so far it’s been a huge success.”
Jammin’ in the Alley to feature “Backroad Brigade” September 21st

Clarksville, TN – The City of Clarksville together with U.S. Bank will be Jammin’ in Strawberry Alley again on Friday, September 21st, 2012. Join us for this month’s free concert beginning at 7:00pm.
The concert features four good ole boys from the backwoods of Clarksville, Tennessee. Don’t let that fool you, because they know how to rock! What began as a high school pastime turned into something even they weren’t expecting. Their band, Backroad Brigade, is like no other bands of their generation. Instead of power pop or death metal, they keep the sound of good, old-fashioned rock and roll alive.
Clarksville Celebrates Independence Day at McGregor Park

Clarksville, TN – Well over 20,000 people jammed the banks of the Cumberland River as the City of Clarksville held their annual Independence Day Celebration last night. This celebration of patriotism is one of the most popular events hosted by the city each year.
This years celebration was sponsored by the City of Clarksville, Aetna Insurance and U.S. Bank.
TWRA’s Youth Fishing Rodeo Brings Love of the Outdoors to Clarksville’s Youth

Clarksville, TN – The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) in partnership with the Clarksville Department of Parks and Recreation, Grandpa’s, Walmart, Boyles Bait, and the Healing outside of a Hospital (HOOAH) Program worked together to give the youth of Clarksville an opportunity to enjoy a day of free fishing in Liberty Park.
The annual Youth Fishing Rodeo is held on the second Saturday in June to coincides with Tennessee’s Free Fishing Day and 16 and under Free Fishing Week. “This is the 11th Year that we’ve joined together with the Clarksville Department of Parks and Recreation, and all of our sponsors to bring the outdoors to young kids who may be fishing for the very first time,” said Montgomery County Wildlife Officer Dale Grandstaff. “There are over 400 kids gathered around the fishing pond at Liberty Park to have a great time in the great outdoors!”
Clarksville Parks and Recreation’s “Spring Eggstravanganza” easter egg hunt was held Saturday

Clarksville, TN – The City of Clarksville’s Department of Parks and Recreation held their annual Spring Eggstravanganza easter egg hunt on Saturday, April 7th on the Heritage Park Baseball Fields. The turn out was overwhelming, and so the Clarksville Department of Parks and Recreation staff are planning to make adjustments to the event next year. Thousands of families showed up to enjoy the absolutely wonderful afternoon.
Indoor Aquatic Center holds Wettest Egg Hunts

Clarksville, TN – The Indoor Aquatic Center played host to what is sure to become one of the most popular Easter events in Clarksville, The Wettest Egg Hunts. On Saturday, March 31st, thousands of brightly colored eggs were put into the swimming and wading pools, to await the hundreds of children who would plunge in to seek out a variety of prizes. Many of the eggs floated, but some were weighted causing them to sink to the bottom of the pool.
The event was made possible by the generous support of Sango Pool and Spa, and the Clarksville branch of the YMCA. “We couldn’t have done this event without them,” said Matthew Dixon the Special Events Coordinator for the City of Clarksville Department of Parks and Recreation. Other area businesses provided prizes which were printed on laminated slips of paper that were inside some of the eggs.
Clarksville Hosts Second Annual Sports Festival

Clarksville, TN – The Clarksville Department of Parks and Recreation held its second-annual Clarksville Sports Festival on Saturday, March 17th, at the Foy Fitness Center on the campus of Austin Peay State University. The day-long festival was a celebration of sports and athletics in Clarksville and Montgomery County and featured not only clinics, sports demonstrations and interactive areas, but also seminars and even an exposition area where over 20 of Clarksville and Montgomery County’s athletic and outdoor clubs, businesses and organizations provided information to the community.
