Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department to hold several Independence Day programs

Clarksville, TN – The City of Clarksville’s Independence Day celebration will look different this year amid health concerns from the COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic.
While no fireworks celebration is planned, The Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department is preparing multiple events and activities leading up to Independence Day.
Events include: Toddler Fourth of July Craft Class, Independence Day Attire creation, Yankee Doodle Dandy Crafts & Snacks, Star-Spangled Family Non-Cooking Class and the Firecracker Virtual 5K.
Clarksville Parks and Recreation announces Billy Dunlop Park to reopen after Renovations

Clarksville Parks and Recreation to hold Billy Dunlop Park ribbon cutting ceremony on June 24th.
Clarksville, TN – After a 6-month renovation project, Clarksville’s Billy Dunlop Park will reopen with an improved pavilion and extensive landscaping designed to protect the riverbank from erosion.
The Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department will host a ribbon-cutting event on Wednesday, June 24th, 2020 at 9:00am at the park, 1930 E Boyscout Road. After the ceremony, the park will be reopened to the public.
Visitors will find major improvements to the park’s large pavilion, which got structural repairs, a new roof, siding and stone pillars. Other upgrades include new picnic tables, a grill and modern, fully accessible restrooms.
Clarksville Downtown Market to hold Frontline Heroes Appreciation Day this Saturday

Clarksville, TN – Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department announces that the Clarksville Downtown Market will host a Frontline Heroes Appreciation Day on Saturday, June 13th, 2020. Participating vendors will offer special discounts to frontline workers. The first 50 frontline workers to visit the Clarksville Parks and Recreation tent will receive a free Clarksville Downtown Market T-shirt.
In addition, everyone who visits the Clarksville Parks and Recreation tent will have an opportunity to win a $100.00 Walmart gift card.
Clarksville Parks and Recreation to open Two Pools, June 20th

Clarksville, TN – The Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department will reopen Swan Lake Swimming Pool and Bel-Aire Swimming Pool on June 20th, 2020 restoring another summer tradition delayed this year by the COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic.
“We know how much everyone misses the pools, and we’ve been doing everything we can to shape a safe reopening plan,” said Kimberly Gilbert, Aquatics Superintendent for Clarksville Parks and Recreation.
Movies in the Park to return June 13th

Clarksville, TN – Are you missing the movie theater? Looking for a safe way to get out of the house for some quality family time? The Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department is excited to announce the return of Movies in the Park presented by Kyrstin Frate with Keller Williams.
The first event will be the movie Black Panther on Saturday, June 13th, 2020 at the Liberty Park Athletic Field, near the playground. The movie will begin at sunset, which is around 8:00pm.
Clarksville Downtown Market returns to Public Square, Saturday

Clarksville, TN – On Saturday, June 6th, 2020, after three weeks at a temporary site in McGregor Park, the Clarksville Downtown Market presented by CDE Lightband will return to its home in Public Square with a full slate of farm and artisan vendors and several food trucks.
“McGregor Park North Extension was a wonderful temporary location for us,” said Trey Stroud, Market Manager for Clarksville Parks and Recreation. “But, we are just as eager to return to normal as the rest of the City, and seeing the Clarksville Downtown Market back in Public Square is a great step toward that.”

Winning artwork will be painted at Heritage Park Skate Park
Clarksville, TN – Clarksville Parks and Recreation is seeking talented artists who want to see their work on public display to compete in the biannual Art on the Park contest sponsored by PPG Paints.
The contest has three age brackets, 12-18, 19-24, and 25 and up. Participants are competing for the chance to paint their work on a wall chosen by Clarksville Parks and Recreation at the Heritage Park Skate Park. Each winner will receive a $25.00 gift card, and all winning artwork will be featured on social media and other advertisements in the future.
Clarksville Parks and Recreation Summer Youth Program to feature Activity Packs, Virtual Programming

Clarksville, TN – Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department will not host an in-person Summer Youth Program this year to ensure the safety of the public during the COVID-19 Coronavirus outbreak. However, plans have been finalized for a free “virtual” summer camp experience!
The virtual camp will be June 1st to July 10th and will consist of two components: weekly activity packs that children can enjoy at home, and virtual programming which will be shared online and on the Clarksville Community Network. Children can participate in one or both components.
Clarksville Parks and Recreation says Downtown Market to open at McGregor Park, May 16th

Clarksville, TN – The Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department announces that the Clarksville Downtown Market will open May 16th, 2020 at a new home on the banks of the Cumberland River.
McGregor Park North Extension, behind O’Charley’s on Riverside Drive, will be the site of the popular weekly event until further notice while concerns over the COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic are ongoing.
Trey Stroud, Downtown Market Manager, said the new site provides more space and enhanced ability to follow social distancing guidelines.
Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department to hold Virtual 5K

Clarksville, TN – Whether you’re already active, looking to get off the couch, or just want to stay indoors, this newest Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department event is for you.
Beginning at 5:00pm on April 24th, 2020, registration will open for the first-ever Clarksville Parks and Recreation Virtual 5k. The event is designed to allow participants to choose between three varying distances. Participants can complete their run anywhere and anytime between April 24th, 2020 and May 24th, 2020.
Runners are encouraged to use Liberty Park or the Clarksville Greenway, as mile markers will be placed at those parks within the next week.
