Clarksville Parks and Recreation now accepting Lifeguard applications the New Year

Clarksville Parks and Recreation DepartmentClarksville, TN – Clarksville Parks and Recreation is now accepting applications for lifeguard positions for the 2016 summer swimming season.

To become a lifeguard, participants must be at least 15 years of age and able to swim 300 yards continuously, tread water for two minutes without the use of arms or hands and successfully complete a timed event within 1 minute and 40 seconds.

Clarksville Academy students help bring Bicycle Share Program to Clarksville

Clarksville Parks and Recreation DepartmentClarksville, TN – Thanks to a group of Clarksville Academy students, a grant from the Clarksville-Montgomery County Community Health Foundation and a partnership with the city of Clarksville, a bicycle share program will soon come to Liberty park and McGregor park.

The group, comprised of about eight Clarksville students each year, researched and wrote a grant proposal as part of Clarksville Academy’s Challenge Based Learning (CBL).

City Seeks Public Input on Safe Routes to School

Clarksville Parks and Recreation DepartmentClarksville, TN – A citizen’s input workshop to discuss a potential grant application and project will be held at Kenwood Elementary School, located 1101 Peachers Mill Road, on the evening of January 5th, 2016 beginning at 6:00pm.

The City of Clarksville is teaming up with the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System to seek federal/state funding to assist with providing students at the Kenwood School Complex better and safer routes by adding a series of wide sidewalks through Heritage Park and along East Pine Mountain Road.

Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department to hold Public Meeting on City Pool

December 28, 2015

Clarksville Parks and Recreation DepartmentClarksville, TN – Bel-Aire Pool is one of five public city pools in Clarksville. It was recently closed due to maintenance issues. Mark Tummons, Clarksville Parks and Recreation Director, says resident input will aid in the development of future plans for the pool.

“From this process, we hope to generate involvement from conception to completion,” Tummons says. “By interacting with citizens in real-time and having two-way communication we hope to create a high level of citizen engagement.”
