Clarksville, TN – The epic adventure of the Lewis and Clark Expedition is relived in the regional premiere of “Bea(u)tiful in the Extreme”, opening at the Roxy Regional Theatre on Friday, April 1st, at 8:00pm.
In this new play by Leon Martell, the legendary expedition is recalled in flashbacks as Meriwether Lewis struggles to come to grips with his experience and the meaning of America. As Lewis sets out to edit his final report, he is haunted by visions of Thomas Jefferson, Sacagawea, the hospitable but doomed Mandan people, raging rapids, suspicious Lakota warriors, frozen mountain passes, and York, the slave seeking his own definition of freedom. Clarksville, TN – The next Comedy on the Cumberland show is set for Tuesday, March 15th at 7:00pm at the Roxy Regional Theatre. The show will feature the very funny Karen Mills, who headlines a line-up of some of the funniest comedians working today. “I was referred to Karen Mills by the last shows headliner Henry Cho, and if he thinks she’s funny, then she’s funny”, said Hank Bonecutter.
Mills will be joined by Nashville comics Renard Hirsch, and Donnie Pollard. “Renard is hilarious”, said Bonecutter. “I’ve seen him perform, and I’ve performed with him, and he never disappoints”. “He’s one of the hardest working comedians in Nashville and is in high demand”. Donnie Pollard is one of Nashville’s “up and coming” comics, and has been sharpening his skills in Nashville, and Knoxville, where “crowds love him.”
The Sounds of Ain’t Misbehavin’ has the Roxy Regional Theatre jumpin’ and jivin’
February 27, 2011
Clarksville, TN – The Roxy Regional Theatre’s revival of the Tony award winning musical Ain’t Misbehavin’ is an explosive romp that takes the audience on a jaunt through the roaring 1920’s, and leading into the great depression. The show is intended as a tribute to African American musicians and follows the birth of an entirely new genre of jazz music known as swing.
Swing can trace its roots to the Harlem renaissance which brought African American Culture to the attention of white society in swanky New York night clubs where musicians like Count Basie, Cab Calloway, Fletcher Henderson, Fats Waller, Duke Ellington, Jelly Roll Morton, and Willie “The Lion” Smith entertained the elites of New York’s high society.
The show features the music of Jazz Pianist and songwriter Fats Waller, played flawlessly by Tom Thayer.
The Roxy is Jumpin’ with Music of Fats Waller in AIN’T MISBEHAVIN’
February 11, 2011
Clarksville, TN – The outrageously prodigious comic and musical soul of 1930s Harlem lives on in the Roxy Regional Theatre’s production of AIN’T MISBEHAVIN’: The Fats Waller Musical Show, beginning February 11th.
Thomas “Fats” Waller rose to international fame during the Golden Age of the Cotton Club, honky tonk dives along Lenox Avenue, rent parties, stride piano players and that jumpin’ new beat, Swing! Based on an idea by Murray Horwitz and Richard Maltby Jr., this rollicking, swinging, finger-snapping revue features such tunes as “Honeysuckle Rose,” “Mean to Me,” “Keepin’ Out of Mischief,” “This Joint Is Jumpin’,” “I’ve Got a Feeling I’m Falling,” and many more. American Floyd Rocks the House at APSU
January 24, 2011
Clarksville, TN – American Floyd put on a great show at Austin Peay State University’s Music/Mass Communications Building here in Clarksville on Friday and Saturday Night. I was able to attend the Friday evening show.
The concert opened with chopper sound effects and then led into Pink Floyds Brick in the Wall and the video playing behind the stage on a 40 foot screen that tied it all together. Along with great music, the light and laser show was awesome. At one point while the show was jamming inside the fire alarms were triggered outside the concert hall, as the mist from the fog machines spread through the building. Of course there was no danger to anyone inside the show.
