The Latest Trail In The Discover Tennessee Trails & Byways Program

Screaming Eagle TrailClarksville, TN The Tennessee Department of Tourist Development officially launched the Screaming Eagle Trail at a special event Friday, April 20th held at the Rivers and Spires Festival in Clarksville, Tennessee. The 13th of 16 self-guided driving tours in the Discover Tennessee Trails & Byways program, The Screaming Eagle travels 353 miles from Nashville throughout other cities in Middle Tennessee.

The Screaming Eagle Trail is the result of a partnership between multiple state agencies and city and county officials. The end result is a trail made up of sites and attractions in Benton, Cheatham, Davidson, Dickson, Houston, Humphreys, Montgomery and Stewart counties that travels through Middle Tennessee’s history, landscape, music and cuisine.

Sesame Street and USO Experience for Military Families USO tour

USOFort Campbell, KY – On April 14th and 15th, the Sesame Street and USO Experience for Military Families USO tour put on three free performances for Fort Campbell families active duty, Retirees, National Guard, reserves and Department of Defense Civilians. Over 1,800 people came out to watch the shows.

The 30 minute performance was a special event for the military community since it is specifically designed to educate children about coping with military deployments and homecomings.

34th Annual Queen City Road Race Early Bird Registration deadline is quickly approaching

34th Annual Queen City Road RaceClarksville, TN – The Early Bird Deadline for the 34th Annual Queen City Road Race, scheduled for Sunday, May 6th, is quickly approaching! Those registering for the 5K race on or by April 20th will qualify for the $20.00 rate. Registration after April 20th will be $25.00 for the 5K.

The Queen City Road Race event is a Clarksville tradition promoting fitness and fun for all ages. The 5K race route takes runners through the streets of Historic Downtown Clarksville, beginning and ending at Austin Peay State University’s Governors Stadium, while the One Mile Movement takes you on an exciting tour of a portion of the APSU campus. Army Veteran Hubert Thomas to be Honored by House of Heroes this week

City of ClarksvilleClarksville, TN – House of Heroes, Inc., a community-focused 501(c)(3) program, is coming to Clarksville on April 4th and 5th, 2012, to honor Sergeant Major (Ret.) Hubert Thomas and his wife, Mary Elizabeth.

The House of Heroes program honors military and public safety veterans and/or their spouses by repairing and improving their homes at no cost. Since its inception in 1999, the program has repaired over 450 homes nationwide. The Thomas’ house will be the program’s first project in Tennessee. [Read more]

LEAP Organization awards Single Parent Transitional Housing

LEAP OrganizationClarksville TN – March 1st, 2012 marked another opportunity for a single parent to have a second chance. Through a collaborative partnership with the LEAP Organization and Millan Enterprises, the parent was awarded an apartment unit and is eligible to receive two vouchers making her rent free for the first two months. After which, based on compliance with the program can receive an additional 2 vouchers that will make her rent half off the market value.

As needed she may even receive additional vouchers of up to $100.00 off the rent.

LEAP has launched an online campaign requesting members of the community to commit to donating at least $5.00 month to help purchase additional apartment units for the LEAP Transitional Housing Program.
