Fort Campbell Welcomes Home its Commanding General

Fort Campbell KY, 101st Airborne DivisionFort Campbell, KY – Fort Campbell held a Welcome Home Ceremony today for elements of its 101st Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion; the flight included the 101st Airborne Division Flag; Fort Campbell’s Commanding General Maj. Gen. John F. Campbell, Command Sgt. Maj. Scott Schroeder, and 25 soldiers.

Major General Campbell and his headquarters element began their most recent “rendezvous with destiny” in June, 2010 when they assumed responsibility and control of RC-East and CJTF-101. Their mission was to conduct combined action counterinsurgency operations to protect the population, increase the competency, capacity, and credibility of Afghan institutions and defeat insurgent forces in partnership with the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan (GIRoA) and in close coordination with joint, interagency and multinational partners.

Donald Rumsfeld - Known and UnknownWashington, D.C. – On Friday, May 27th, former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld will be at the Fort Campbell Exchange to sign copies of his New York Times #1 bestselling memoir, Known and Unknown. Mr. Rumsfeld has been visiting military bases nationwide to promote the sale of his book, from which his proceeds go to charities supporting those serving in the military and their families.

Hamburger Hill Veterans Visit Fort Campbell Kentucky

Fort Campbell KY, 101st Airborne Division Fort Campbell, KY – Dozens of Vietnam-era, 101st Airborne Division Veterans returned to Fort Campbell, May 12th – 13th, to commemorate the 42nd anniversary of the Battle of Hamburger Hill.

The 3rd Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, “Iron Rakkasans” welcomed the Veterans back to Fort Campbell and will host several events in their honor.

The Veterans, on May 12th, visited to the Sabalauski Air Assault School, where Veterans witnessed a demonstration of 21st Century combat insertion techniques and Air Assault operations.
