Clarksville Parks and Recreation and the Friends of Fort Defiance to host “March to the Past” Saturday

Friends of Fort DefianceClarksville, TN – The City of Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department and the Friends of Fort Defiance will host the “March to the Past” event this Saturday, June 23rd from 10:00am to 5:00pm at the Fort Defiance Civil War Park and Interpretive Center, located at 120 Duncan Street.

This event will feature living history demonstrations such as infantry drills, Civil War medicine and clothing, rolling rifle cartridges and games for children.

“March to the Past” to be held June 23rd by Friends of Fort Defiance

Friends of Fort DefianceClarksville, TN – The Friends of Fort Defiance, including Porter’s Battery and Baxter’s Battery, will hold their “March to the Past” fundraising event at Fort Defiance Civil War Park and Interpretive Center on June 23rd from 10:00am-5:00pm.

Activities will include living history demonstrations such as quilting, Civil War medicine and clothing, rolling rifle cartridges, games for children, and firing demonstrations.

The Friends will be selling hot dogs and baked goods to support Fort Defiance.

Fort Defiance Interpretive CenterClarksville, TN – A meet and greet with an Abraham Lincoln impersonator is planned for 2:00pm Saturday, May 12th, 2012, at the Fort Defiance Civil War Park and Interpretive Center, located at 120 Duncan Street.

The event will feature Mr. Whit McMahan as President Abraham Lincoln, and will include a brief speech. Visitors to the event are encouraged to bring their own blankets and chairs.

Clarksville’s Civil War Story Video Wins Award from Tennessee Association of Museums

The Customs House Museum and Cultural CenterClarksville, TN – “Crossroads of Change, Clarksville, Tennessee 1861-1865,” a locally-produced video providing a perspective of the impact of the Civil War upon Clarksville and its inhabitants during the years 1861 to 1865, was honored with a 2012 Certificate of Commendation from the Tennessee Association of Museums (TAM) at its annual convention held recently in Memphis Tennessee.

Actor Keith McCoy portrays a member of the US Colored Troops in this scene from “Crossroads of Change, Clarksville, Tennessee 1861-1865.” The video was researched, written and filmed in Montgomery County and is based on local journals and diaries of the Civil War era.
