Clarksville Parks and Recreation invites public to design workshop for inclusive playground

Clarksville, TN – The Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department is inviting citizens to participate in a two-day workshop on the design of a proposed new inclusive playground at the Clarksville Athletic Complex at Exit 8.
The workshop is from 6:00pm-7:30pm on January 16th at Freedom Point. The purpose is to show the community what inclusive play looks like and to gather ideas, thoughts and visions about how a new inclusive park could take shape in the Athletic Complex, which is in the design phase.
The goal is to formulate a path forward based on input from the community to create a playground for everyone to enjoy.

Clarksville, TN – Do you dream of being a Hollywood director? Do you have a talent for cinematography? Clarksville Parks and Recreation is looking for you and your team to compete in the Clarksville Film Festival, sponsored by CDE Lightband.
“We know Clarksville has some amazing artists and we’re really hoping to see their talents,” said Maggie Houts, Event Planning Specialist for Clarksville Parks and Recreation. “It doesn’t matter if you have the best gear or just your phone. We are looking for filmmakers who can create a captivating story in 52 hours or less.”
Clarksville Parks and Recreation now forming Spring Adult Softball leagues

Clarksville, TN – The Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department is gearing up for spring adult softball with leagues open to men and women ages 18 and older.
League play takes place at Heritage Park Softball Complex, 1241 Peachers Mill Road. Games will be weekly and include the following leagues: Men’s, True Co-Ed (equal men and women), Men’s 45 & over, Co-Ed (at least two women) and Women’s.
To ensure your team gets a spot in the league, a team registration fee of $100.00 is due by February 14th.

Clarksville, TN – Through the keen eyes of a sculptor, an architect and an exhibit designer, the Pat Head Summitt Legacy Plaza has come to life at Freedom Point.
A bronze statue of Coach Summitt, hometown hero and legendary University of Tennessee women’s basketball coach, and an interpretative display of her life story will be dedicated at 3:00pmFriday, June 15th, 2018 in Clarksville’s Liberty Park.
“Though her famous ‘stare’ may be missing, our sculpture hopes to embody her passion and fire,” said Brett Grill, sculptor of the Coach Summitt statue. “She was a rare talent, quickly ascending to the highest reaches of her field, which she dominated throughout her career.”

Pat Head Summitt Statue, life-story display will be unveiled at Freedom Point
Clarksville, TN – Clarksville civic volunteers will achieve their goal of honoring Pat Head Summitt, hometown hero and legendary University of Tennessee women’s basketball coach, with the dedication of the Pat Head Summitt Legacy Plaza at Freedom Point next month.
A bronze statue of Coach Summitt and an interpretative display of her life story will be dedicated at 3:00pm Friday, June 15th, 2018 in Clarksville’s Liberty Park. The public is invited to the event, which will include introductions of sculptor Brett Grill, members of Pat Head Summitt’s family, dignitaries and committee members, followed by a keynote speech and unveiling of the statue.

Alex King, board member and past president, and Lawrence Mize also signaled support for the City’s efforts to create an advocacy group to promote a more bicycle- and pedestrian-friendly community.
