Friends of Dunbar Cave’s Twelfth Annual Trees to Trails
December 16, 2010
Clarksville, TN – The Friends of Dunbar Cave Nature Area are gearing up for their twelfth annual Trees to Trails project. The first stage of the project is the collection of Christmas trees. Once decorations (including tinsel) have been taken off cut trees, members of the community are asked to drop them off at the park.
The designated drop-off pile is located in the corner of the parking lot, at intersection of Dunbar and Old Dunbar Cave Roads. The park is open daily 8:00am until sunset. Trees will be accepted through January 9th, 2011.
The second phase of the project is the shredding of the collected trees. The resulting mulch will be will be saved until early Spring and used to cover park pathways. Christmas trees are considered a good source of park mulch because they are free of vines and seeds from invasive plants. The mulch helps control erosion without introducing unwanted plants to the trails.

July 26, 2010
Transportation via golf cart between the parking lot and the cave entrance will be available for those who need it, thanks to the kindness of the Jeff Vaughn and the City of Clarksville.
With the heat index passing 100 lately, it is perfect timing for the Friends of Dunbar Cave’s annual Cooling at the Cave event. Bring your family out Saturday, July 31, from 4pm to 6pm and enjoy sitting at the mouth of the cave, which stays at 58 degrees year round.
Sitting in the shade at the mouth of the cave is how locals cooled off before the cave was a designated State Natural Area. Folks would bring tables, chairs, and board games. Some would play instruments, while others danced. This is the atmosphere the Friends of Dunbar Cave recreate every year. [Read more]

February 21, 2009
In a reception held Thursday evening at the Dunbar Cave Visitor’s Center, the Friends of Dunbar Cave premiered a new 15-minute documentary on the history of the cave. the film will be run every on days when the center is open.
Over 25 people were filmed and interviewed by the Friends group, but Clean Cut used only four of them in this short introductory film. Cathy Lee and Jason Bagget were on hand to meet those attending this event.
A few years ago Friends of Dunbar Cave made an agreement with Cathy Lee of Clean Cut Productions at Austin Peay, to make a short introductory film for the park. In exchange for a scholarship donation, Clean Cut took on the job of producing an 8 to 15 minute film about Dunbar Cave, the kind of film that someone coming to the park can watch to get an idea of the wondrous place he/she has entered onto.
