Clarksville-Montgomery Public Library Ribbon Cutting for Teen Seating Area set for Sunday, December 6th

Clarksville-Montgomery County Public LibraryClarksville, TN – Ava Ploeckelman, 13-year-old library user and Girl Scout recently did a good deed for the public library. “There was a need for a comfortable and attractive seating area in the teen section of the library,” she said.

She chose as her Girl Scout Silver Award project to take on providing this seating. Ava proceeded to fundraise through a variety of methods, including producing and selling some of the best cupcakes Clarksville has seen. Ploeckelman also enlisted the help of the Friends of the Clarksville-Montgomery Public Library and Tennessee State Representative Joe Pitts for donations.

New APSU scholarship honors victim of carbon monoxide poisoning

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – At Kenwood High School on Tuesday, 18-year-old Skylar Hughes presented Austin Peay State University President Alisa White with a $25,000 check.

The money, which Skylar helped raise, will fund the Kathryn Watson Over Endowment—a new scholarship, named for Skylar’s former teacher, that will be awarded each year to a Kenwood graduate majoring in education at APSU.

Vietnam Veterans of America held their annual Memorial Day Candlelight Vigil Sunday night, May 24th

Clarksville, TN – On Sunday, May 25th, the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 396 held their annual Candlelight Vigil to remember the men and women who were left behind in Vietnam when American forces withdrew in 1975.

It is a solemn occasion when a nation gathers together to honor its soldiers, those who lived to come home, but even more importantly those who did not.

LEAP OrganizationClarksville, TN – On a crisp October Saturday LEAP organization in collaboration with the Clarksville Housing Authority hosted a Block Party in Lincoln Homes. Laughter could be heard as you approached the block party. It was coming from dozens and dozens of children enjoying free hot dogs, popcorn, and ice cream as well as playing games, jumping in the inflatables provided by A Jump’n Good Time, and live music from DJ Greedy.

LEAP Site Lead Dorlisha White spearheaded the event with the help of Martha Witherspoon of the Housing Authority.

Liberty Park GrillClarksville, TN – The Liberty Park Grill opens today at 11:00am. The new restaurant serving Liberty Park held a official ribbon-cutting with the Clarksville Area Chamber of Commerce on Saturday in conjunction with a VIP preview of the new restaurant.

Restaurant manager Robert Bowlby took a few minutes to speak with Clarksville Online before the ceremony. “We’re so proud to be here! Clarksville is such a wonderful place, it’s a wonderful community,” he said. “My family and I are just now getting to know the area but we like what we seen so far. It has a lot of history, a lot of unique things to do like the free movies in the park, the Downtown Farmers Market, the Roxy Regional Theatre. All very unique and exciting venues for us to discover as a family.”

Aspire Clarksville Foundation annouces $4 Million Campaign Achievement

Aspire Clarksville FoundationClarksville, TN – On Monday evening, Dr. Mark Green and Joe Pitts announced that the Aspire Clarksville Foundation had garnered nearly $4 million in pledges, surpassing the current goal, and previous campaigns, by a wide margin.

Aspire Clarksville, an economic development foundation to benefit Clarksville-Montgomery County, Tennessee, officially announced in February that the goal for the entire Aspire V “Focus On The Future” Campaign was $3.8 million.
