Montgomery County Health Department Workers recognized by the Tennessee Public Health Association

Montgomery County, TN – Last week, two Montgomery County public health employees, Joey Smith and Charlene Haynes, were recognized at the Tennessee Public Health Association’s 71st annual conference in Franklin, TN.
Charlene Haynes was awarded the R. H. Hutcheson, Sr., MD Award. This award is presented to a person in the field of public health who has made outstanding contributions to public health throughout their career, over a period of several years. This is considered the association’s highest award. Charlene served the Montgomery County Health Department for several years before accepting her current position as Regional Nursing Supervisor for the Tennessee Department of Health.
APSU School of Nursing receives $35,000 grant with Montgomery County Health Department for Breast Health

Clarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University School of Nursing and the Montgomery County Health Department will continue to support the fight against breast cancer, thanks to a recent $35,985 grant from the Greater Nashville Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
For the second year in a row, the Nashville Komen affiliate has awarded the grant to the two organizations to provide breast health education and services to underserved populations in this community.
Montgomery County Health Department receives Green Certification

Montgomery County, TN – The Montgomery County Health Department became a Clarksville-Montgomery County Green Certified organization last week.
The Health Department is looking out for the health of our community as well as the health of our community’s environment. On Tuesday, May 28th the Health Department celebrated their CMC Green Certification with a green ribbon cutting ceremony.
Austin Peay State University School of Nursing receives $60,000 grant with Montgomery County Health Department for Breast Health

Clarksville, TN – Thanks to a $60,000 grant from the Susan G. Komen for the Cure-Greater Nashville Affiliate, the Austin Peay State University School of Nursing will partner with the Montgomery County Health Department to begin a breast health program.
The effort will launch June 12th with a forum that will serve as a call to action for men and women to know the latest about breast cancer, specifically how to minimize their chances of developing the cancer and how to detect signs early.
Final Group of 2012 Working Towards Green Certification

Montgomery County, TN – A seventh group of participants completed the Clarksville-Montgomery County Green Certification Program (CMCGCP) workshops this month.
The group began the process in October 2012 with plans to complete their certifications by April 2013.
Montgomery County Health Department gets New Director

Montgomery County, TN – The Montgomery County Mayor’s Office is pleased to announce that Joey Smith has been selected to lead the Montgomery County Health Department as the Public Health Director.
Smith will replace Andre Fresco who is moving out of state to pursue other opportunities.
Smith is an Austin Peay graduate with over 12 years experience with the Tennessee Department of Health. [Read more]
