Acuff Circle of Excellence seeking 2014 Ovation Award nominees

Clarksville, TN – The Acuff Circle of Excellence, a non-profit patron society of the Austin Peay State University Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts, is seeking nominations for the coveted Ovation Awards, presented annually since 1996.
The nominees must have made significant contributions to the artistic and cultural life of the Clarksville-Montgomery County community.

Montgomery County College and Career Fair September 23rd

Montgomery County, TN – The annual Montgomery County College and Career Night for students and their parents will be September 23rd, 2013 from 6:00om-8:00pm at Austin Peay State University’s Foy Fitness Center.
This event gives students exposure to a wide array of post high school options, allowing them to informally visit booths to pick up information about colleges, post secondary institutions and career opportunities and speak with representatives of those institutions. [Read more]
Clarksville Riverfest Tour d’Art Winners

Clarksville, TN – Every year, Clarksville’s Riverfest Tour d’Art exhibits feature the talents from artists across the Clarksville-Montgomery County area.
There are three divisions; the Senior (Downtown Artists Co-op), the High School (Customs House Museum) and the Amateur and Professional Divisions (Smith-Trahern Mansion).
After hundreds of artists had their works of art on display at various locations in downtown Clarksville, then judged by artist Dane Carder, winners were awarded at the Tour d’Art Receptions, Friday, September 6th, 2013. [Read more]
Clarksville’s 8th Annual ‘Frolic on Franklin’ coming September 14th, 2013

Clarksville, TN – Downtown Clarksville’s 8th Annual “Frolic on Franklin: A Celebration of the Arts” will take place Saturday, September 14th from 9:00am-3:30pm. The free event will showcase the works of 20 local and regional artists, staged and roaming entertainment, artists’ demonstrations, and baked goods – all along the 100 block of historic Franklin Street.
A variety of original fine art, as well as handmade crafts, will be on display including paintings and photography, handmade toys, wood-turned items, quilts, fabric purses and totes, pottery, wreaths, hand-painted signs, jewelry, woven and knitted items, and seasonal gifts. Items will be for sale with prices ranging from $2.00 – $250.00.
Opening Convocation Aimed at Welcoming CMCSS Students to College

Clarksville, TN – With the grant awarded to the STEM Academy at Kenwood High School and Middle College High School, the fall semester at Austin Peay State University kicks off with 170 CMCSS students who will be transitioning into college via dual enrollment.
More impressively, they are doing so without incurring any personal expense.
To honor these students, CMCSS is hosting a STEM Academy/ Middle College Dual-Enrollment Welcoming Convocation on Thursday, August 22nd at 1:00pm in the Ballroom of the Morgan University Center at APSU. [Read more]

Clarksville’s Kenwood High School Dance Team takes Honors

Clarksville, TN – Kenwood High School Varsity 2013/2014 Dance team attended The Universal Dance Association Dance Camp this past week at UT Martin.
The dance team was awarded numerous Drill Down Ribbons for military drill & field commands, a Superior Rating on their home routine and superior ratings on all of their A B and C camp dances taught by The Universal Dance Association Staff with the head instructor from UT Knoxville where she is a member of UT’s Dance National Team.
Kenwood High School Students named ‘Volunteers of the Year’ for 2013 Rivers and Spires Festival

Clarksville, TN – The Rivers and Spires Festival is pleased to recognize Kenwood High School as the Clarksville-Montgomery County School with the most student volunteers working at the 2013 Festival.
The students were presented with a trophy and certificate recognizing their commitment to the community-driven event. The school boasted 34 volunteers this year, ten more than the second place school, with several of them coming from their JROTC program.

Clarksville-Montgomery County School System gets Grant to Cover Dual Enrollment Costs for STEM Academy, Middle College Students

Nashville, TN – The Clarksville-Montgomery County School System has received a $40,000 grant to pay for STEM Academy and Middle College High School’s students’ fees for dual enrollment in college courses.
The Tennessee College Access and Success Network awarded a total of $412,426 this week to six schools, two higher education institutions and four nonprofits in its third annual grant competition, raising the total amount of Race to the Top funds awarded by the Network to more than $1.6 million.
