Riverfest Regatta rows on despite COVID-19

Clarksville, TN – Many of the events at this year’s Riverfest had to be re-engineered, thanks to COVID-19 Coronavirus. Though some were canceled because of social distancing concerns, the good people at Clarksville Parks and Recreation did manage to find ways to carry on in the spirit of Clarksville’s favorite outdoor festival.
With twelve days of events, such as the Juried Art Show, Virtual Talent Competition, Virtual 5K, and the ever-popular Riverfest Cardboard Boat Regatta, the new-normal version of the festival was smaller and quieter, but a success none the less.
Clarksville Area Chamber of Commerce Continues Facade Improvement Program

Clarksville, TN – The Clarksville Area Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the Aspire Foundation, is proud to extend its Facade Improvement program to enhance the economic appeal of the downtown Clarksville commercial district. During the first round of applications, the Clarksville Area Chamber approved 6 facade grants, totaling $75,000.

Serving as chairman for a one-year term beginning July 1st, is Charlie Koon, Director of Workforce & Economic Development at Workforce Essentials. Koon was named the 2015 Middle Tennessee Workforce Services Employee of the Year by the Tennessee Department of Labor and in 2008 he was named Clarksville’s “Citizen of the Year.”

Barksdale Elementary School students learn about government from officials

Clarksville, TN – Students at Barksdale Elementary School prepared for this week’s Social Studies test, but aside from hitting the books, they were taught by several officials in local government.
Captain Jesse Reynolds of the MCSO introduced Clarksville City Mayor Kim McMillan, Montgomery County Director of Administration Phil Harpel, Circuit Judge Ross Hicks, Assistant District Attorney Daniel Stephenson, Attorney Michael Pugh, K-9 Deputy Kelley Potter along with K-9 Mali and Deputy Tim Harp of the bomb squad.

Vietnam Veterans of America Memorial Day Candle Light Vigil

Clarksville, TN – It is a solemn occasion when a nation gathers together to honor its soldiers, those who lived to come home, but even more importantly those who did not. No remains were returned during the previous year, that leaves 30 remaining missing POW/MIA’s from the State of Tennessee. Each one was honored in a ceremony held in front of the William O. Beach Civic Center at Veterans Plaza in Clarksville Tennessee on Sunday evening.
The Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 396 holds this Memorial Day Vigil each year to remember the men and women who were left behind in Vietnam when American forces left that country in 1975.
