Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – The City of Clarksville’s Christmas on the Cumberland is sure to create lasting memories this holiday season as thousands experience the captivating displays of over one million lights! Join the City of Clarksville and US Bank as we celebrate Christmas on the Cumberland’s 13th year with a grand opening ceremony, November 22nd at 6:30pm at McGregor Park’s RiverWalk.

The grand opening will feature the official lighting of the Cumberland by Mayor Kim McMillan along with special guests, Channel 4 News Snowbird, and the jolly old man himself- Santa Claus!

Historic Downtown Businesses Host Holiday Open House

Clarksville Kiwanis Clubs gives the gift of Christmas to area children

Clarksville, TN – The Clarksville Kiwanis Clubs gathered together on December 7th 2010 to bring the joy of Christmas into the hearts of 216 children from the Headstart program and various area child care centers. The annual Children’s Christmas Party is a partnership between the Hilldale and Downtown Kiwanis Clubs, and was organized and chaired by Andrew Hale, and Matt Dyce.

It all kicked off on Monday when roughly 50 people gathered at First Baptist Church to wrap over $7,000 in toys purchased from area Walmarts. The Walmart Corporation gave the Kiwanis Club a generous discount as a donation to the program. The Toy’s included Disney Princess Dolls, Hasbro’s Littlest Petshop dolls, children’s books, Nerf Weather Blitz All-Conditions Footballs, Fisher-Price Dora the Explorer Mega Tunes Guitars, winter hats and gloves, Tonka Lights & Sound – Rescue Force trucks and helicopters, and Road rippers – Street Screamers cars.

Santa pays a visit to Clarksville’s place for family fun!

Clarksville, TN – After enjoying this year’s Thanksgiving Feast and shopping marathon, head out to RiverView Mounds Century Farm and spend some time relaxing with your loved ones. The farm is offering pictures and visits with Santa among many more activities.

After accepting their award this year for Clarksville’s Best Place for Family Fun, the Rineharts immediately contacted the North Pole to find out if Santa would be able to return this year. The North Pole management has been able to accommodate their special request, but, Santa’s busy schedule will only allow him to participate four weekends this year. Luckily, he is joined by Rudolph, his elves and even Mrs. Claus! [Read more]

Behind the legend of St. Nick…

Take a moment, close your eyes and picture Santa Claus.

You have probably just pictured an older plump man with a bright, fire engine red, fur trimmed coat with matching hat, a broad black belt and gold buckle. He would be wearing shiny black boots, with a full mane of long white hair curled perfectly at the ends. You have just pictured Mr. Haddon Sundblom’s 1931 depiction of St. Nicholas for the Coca Cola company! That famous print not only boosted Coca Cola sales that winter, it set the standard for what we know today as Santa Claus.
