Clarksville, TN – According to the Organic Consumers Association, a 1,000 acre U.S. corporate farm growing genetically engineered crops nets an average of $39.00 an acre. In contrast, a 4-acre family farm nets, on average, $1400 per acre. Small organic farms are proving to be even more profitable. Why? Because they are meeting the needs of a niche market and can charge a little more, they aren’t as reliant on oil, because they use fewer large machines, less pesticides and fertilizer. [Read more]
Spring Market at the Smith Trahern Mansion Friday, April 20th

Clarksville, TN – UT Montgomery County Extension Office is having their Spring Market at the Smith Trahern Mansion this Friday, April 20th. Country Eggs, Strawberries, Honey and so many fine crafts will be at the Market. The market will be from 9:30am until 1:30pm.

Clarksville awarded grants to help fund Smith-Trahern Mansion restoration plan

Clarksville, TN – The Tennessee Historical Commission awarded the City of Clarksville a Historic Preservation Fund grant of $20,000 to prepare a plan for the restoration of the Smith-Trahern Mansion.
These funds represent sixty-percent of the project budget. In order to complete the project, a forty-percent match from local funds is required. Fundraising efforts by the City will continue, with some help already.

Clarksville, TN – “Things You Need to Know to Make a Food Product For Resale.” will be on Friday, January 20th, at the Smith Trahern Mansion (1st and McClure Street Clarksville, TN) from 10:00am until 1:00pm. Small Business Woman, Jenny Chandler will be the lead speaker for this event.
Jenny runs her business out of Ashland City, and works through the Health Department with that endeavor. She’s also done work here at the domestic kitchen at the Montgomery County UT Extension office permitted through the Department of Agriculture. UT Extension helped her and her family in developing ideas and securing training for their businesses, serving as a guide to meet food manufacturing standards. [Read more]

Clarksville, TN– Tennessee State University Cooperative Extension Specialist Dr George Smith will host a workshop titled Natural Playgrounds: Fun, Food and Learning from 9:30am – 11:30am on January 24th 2012.
Natural Playgrounds are outdoor spaces for learning and discovery, having fun and growing things! Natural playgrounds are a proven safe, healthy alternative to traditional playground facilities. Digital Sales Strong – Video Views Increase
Clarksville TN – Local singer/songwriter Lydia Walker’s recent weekend digital album release party and music video premiere was a grand success! The excitement was at full throttle at Chick-fil-a of Madison Street as family and friends packed the dining area to view Lydia’s new video – When I Dance – for the first time.
Guests were also treated to personal introductions of each new song featured on Lydia’s project – Beloved. Main co-writer and producer Curt Ryle was on hand to enjoy the celebration as well as Sarah Lejeune of Feeling Good Entertainment who produced the music video.
Winter Market this Friday

Montgomery County, TN – The Winter Market will be held at Smith Trahern Mansion in Clarksville, TN each Friday from 9:30am until 1:30pm. The Winter Market will be open the Friday after Thanksgiving as well.
Everyone is having a lot of fun with the market vendors and each vendor brings special gifts to the day. New this week is a soap maker and a jewelry designer.
