Montgomery County Parks and Recreation to hold 100 Year Celebration for South Guthrie Community Center

Montgomery County, TN – Montgomery County Parks and Recreation Department will celebrate the 100th anniversary of Warfield School, presently known as South Guthrie Community Center, from September 8th through September 10th.
On the first day of the 100-year celebration, September 8th, from 5:00pm – 7:00pm, Executive Director of the Customs House Museum and Cultural Center Frank Lott will share his extensive knowledge of the architecture of Rosenwald Schools and the renovation to revive the South Guthrie Community Center.
Four Montgomery County Parks have Automated External Defibrillators available

Montgomery County, TN – The Montgomery County Parks and Recreation Department and Montgomery County Emergency Medical Services (MCEMS) have joined forces to provide life saving equipment and training for four of the county parks.
The Parks and Recreation staff spent Thursday morning being trained by MCEMS Assistant Chief Bill Webb on how to properly use Automated External Defibrillators (AED) that will soon be installed in Woodlawn Park, Civitan Park, RichEllen Park and South Guthrie Community Center.
Sue Freeman Culverhouse Speaks to Montgomery County Historical Society about Robert Penn Warren

Clarksville, TN – Author Sue Freeman Culverhouse was the featured speaker as she described the life of Robert Penn Warren at the June 15th meeting of the Montgomery County Historical Society. President Joe Filippo greeted the members and had the treasurer announce the upcoming barbeque fund-raiser to be held at the end of July.
Billyfrank Morrison gave a history of the school built on the site of the community center in South Guthrie, TN, where the event was held.
Montgomery County Historical Society to have author Sue Freeman Culverhouse speak at June 15th meeting

Clarksville, TN – Tennessee author Sue Freeman Culverhouse will speak on the life of Robert Penn Warren at the Monday, June 15th, 2015 meeting of the Montgomery County Historical Society. The 7:00pm meeting will be held at the South Guthrie Community Center.
Warren was born in Guthrie, Kentucky, in April, 1905; his childhood home is now a museum. Robert Penn Warren completed his senior year at Clarksville High School where he wrote for the Purple and Gold, the school literary magazine.
Montgomery County Departments Receive Greater Nashville Regional Council Awards

Montgomery County, TN – Montgomery County Government received two awards from the Greater Nashville Regional Council at its 46th Annual Regional Planning and Economic Development Meeting on Thursday, September 19th.
The annual event held this year in Henderson, TN, presented 25 awards to various cities and counties for programs and initiatives that have exhibited excellence and innovation over that last calendar year.
Warfield School Items Needed for South Guthrie Community Center renovation

Montgomery County, TN – Montgomery County Government is currently renovating the South Guthrie Community Center, located at 5025 Guthrie Road and is seeking historic artifact donations.
The community center was the former Warfield School, built in 1922, with Rosenwald School funds. The county wishes to incorporate the rich heritage of this site within the renovation, by creating a “museum” portion within the historical structure.
South Guthrie Community Center Public Input Meeting

Montgomery County, TN – The Montgomery County Office of Facilities Development, in conjunction with the Montgomery County Parks and Recreation Department, will hold a Public Input meeting to allow interested citizens to express their comments concerning the schematic design for the historic rehabilitation and addition of the South Guthrie Community Center. The meeting will be held at the center, located at 5025 Guthrie Road, on Tuesday, January 24th at 6:30pm.
The South Guthrie Community Center will celebrate its 90th anniversary this year, along with the 100th anniversary of the Rosenwald School initiative. The site was the former Warfield School built in 1922 with Rosenwald School funds. The site serves as the home of the South Guthrie Improvement Association.
Montgomery County Parks Public Input meeting

Montgomery County, TN – The Montgomery County Parks and Recreation Department will conduct a Public Input meeting regarding the South Guthrie Community Center on October 6th, 2011 at 6:30pm. This meeting will be held at the center, located at 5025 Guthrie Road.
Preliminary construction drawings will be on display and citizens will be asked to offer their input on the future uses of the facility and needs of the community. We hope you can join us!
