Jammin’ in the Alley Concert Series to feature first-ever “Night Market”

Jammin in the Alley 2011Clarksville, TN – On Friday, July 15th, the Clarksville Downtown Market will hold its first-ever “Night Market” in conjunction with the City of Clarksville and U.S. Bank’s popular summer concert series Jammin’ in the Alley.

More than a dozen vendors from Clarksville’s weekly Downtown Market will be set up along Strawberry Alley from 5:00pm to 8:00pm selling a variety of homegrown and homemade items.

APSU Students produce Monograph on City’s Public Art Pieces

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Throughout the city of Clarksville, a number of statues and other pieces commemorate the history of the local community, honor heroes and celebrate the spirit of the town.

There’s the statue of John Montgomery, for whom Montgomery County is named, located in front of City Hall, facing Strawberry Alley downtown. The legend of Wilma Rudolph, Clarksville’s most famous woman athlete who was the first female to win three gold medals in the Olympics in 1960 in Rome, Italy, is preserved in her classic crossing-the-finish-line pose at McGregor Park at the intersection of College Street and Riverside Drive. Jammin’ in the Alley Concert Series Kicks off its Fourth Season

Jammin in the Alley 2011Clarksville, TN – The City of Clarksville together with U.S. Bank will soon be Jammin’ in Strawberry Alley once again. Join us on Friday, May 20th to kick off Jammin’ in the Alley’s fourth year in downtown Clarksville. This event takes place the third Friday of every month through October.

This month’s free concert features Tennessee’s premier Journey tribute band, Chain Reaction. This band began from a simple dare. While at a karaoke competition several years ago, a friend of the band’s lead singer Ryan Christopher, dared him to sing Journey’s song, “Don’t Stop Believin’,” to win the contest. Christopher was shocked how natural he felt performing the song and from that moment, he began his quest. He formed Chain Reaction with musicians Greg Vass, guitar/backing vocals; Tommy Hall, bass/backing vocals; Gene Powers, keyboards; Mike Seay, drums; and sound engineer Mark McCuiston. [Read more]

US Bank and APSU Art Department Host Exhibit Open to All Local Artists

Austin Peay Downtown Art GalleryClarksville, TN – All artists over the age of 18 and living in Montgomery County will get the opportunity next month to exhibit and sell their work publicly, all while helping to raise money for college art scholarships.

That’s because US Bank and the Austin Peay State University Department of Art are hosting the 2011 Open Exhibition at the APSU Downtown Gallery from April 7th – 29th. The show, which has a $10.00 entry fee, is open to all local artists. All entries must be delivered to the gallery at 116 Strawberry Alley by 4:00pm, Saturday, April 2nd. [Read more]
