Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – In cooperation with the Tennessee Department of Revenue, Austin Peay State University’s Center for Extended and Distance Education will again host the annual Tennessee Business Tax seminar from 8:00am-5:30pm, Tuesday, July 28th in the Morgan University Center.

Representatives from the Tennessee Department of Revenue, the Tennessee Division of Workers’ Compensation, the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development and the Tennessee Comptroller of the Treasury will facilitate sessions related to business taxes.

Planters Bank to show Pen and Ink Drawings “Simple Tennessee Pleasures” by Janet Felts

Planters BankClarksville, TN – The Planters Bank-Hilldale Gallery will feature “Pen & Ink Drawings” showing simple pleasures in Tennessee by native Clarksvillian Janet Jones Felts from Thursday, April 2nd – Wednesday, May 6th.

Felts’ realistic reflections on life are revealed in the exhibit’s 12 black and white drawings. The display features three large drawings that reflect a youth’s investigations on the farm. Her drawings invite you to rediscover wooden scenes and country roads, along with other forgotten adventures.

Rossview High School Student wins License Plate Design Contest

Tennessee Suicide Prevention NetworkNashville, TN – Brandon Anderson, a student at Clarksville’s Rossview High School, received first prize in a license plate design contest staged by the Tennessee Suicide Prevention Network (TSPN).

On November 22nd, Anderson received a $1,000 check and was honored by members of TSPN at the high school.

APSU to hold Tennessee Business Tax Seminar July 17th

The seminar will be held in the Morgan University Center. Tennessee Sales Tax HolidayNashville, TN – The State of Tennessee’s Annual Sales Tax Holiday is held every year on the first Friday in August and ends the following Sunday night. This year’s tax-free holiday weekend begins at 12:01am on Friday, August 5th and ends Sunday, August 7th at 11:59pm.

For those making purchases in Montgomery County, this means a savings of 9.5 percent on purchases that meet the tax free requirements. [Read more]

What is a Sales Tax Holiday?

When is Tennessee’s Sales Tax Holiday?
Sales Tax Holidays begin every year at 12:01am on the first Friday in August and end at 11:59pm the following Sunday. During this time, Tennesseans can enjoy tax-free purchases on certain clothing, school and art supplies and computers.

What’s Tax-Free?
Tax-free items include clothing with a price of $100.00 or less per item, school and school art supplies with a price of $100.00 or less per item and computers with a price of $1,500 or less. These items are exempt from state and local sales tax in Tennessee during the holiday. Local governments are held harmless and are reimbursed lost sales tax revenues by the state.

Who Can Participate?
Any individual can make a tax-free purchase during the holiday. However, items purchased for use by a trade or business are not exempt. [Read more]

August Sales Tax Holiday Provides Big Savings for All Tennesseans

Nashville, TN – The fifth annual Sales Tax Holiday is scheduled for Friday, August 6th and continuing through Sunday, August 8th. The Department of Revenue is reminding Tennessee shoppers that during these three days of savings, you can save almost 10 percent on tax-free clothing, school and art supplies and computer purchases.

“The annual Sales Tax Holiday was designed with Tennessee families in mind,” said Governor Phil Bredesen. “The holiday provides much needed savings for all Tennessee shoppers and prepares children for success by making sure they start the first day of school properly equipped with items they need.”

The holiday begins Friday, August 6th at 12:01am and ends Sunday, August 8th at 11:59pm. During the designated three-day weekend, consumers will not pay state or local sales tax on select clothing with a price of $100.00 or less per item, school and art supplies with a price of $100.00 or less per item, and computers with a price of $1,500 or less.
