Customs House Museum Announces Award Winners in the Southern Watercolor Society Juried Exhibition

Clarksville's Customs House Museum and Cultural CenterClarksville, TN – The Customs House Museum hosted the awards reception for the Southern Watercolor Society’s 38th Annual Juried Exhibition on May 16th. The show features eighty-seven paintings. This year’s juror Kathleen Conover awarded 32 artists cash or merchandise prices.

The Best in Show was awarded to Z.L. Feng for In the Wood. Feng is an artist-signature member of the American Watercolor Society, the National Watercolor Society, and the Pastel Society of America (as master pastelist).

Exploration at the Customs House Museum

Clarksville's Customs House Museum and Cultural CenterClarksville, TN – Artist Ed Nash brings his large-scale abstracts to the Customs House Museum for the month of May in the exhibit Ed Nash: Exploration.

The acrylic paintings seep with mysterious shapes and textured layers of neutral hues. They are at once both earthy and industrial.

Last Chance to See Current Exhibits at the Customs House Museum

Clarksville's Customs House Museum and Cultural CenterClarksville, TN – The Customs House museum will be changing out its spaces at the end of the month, leaving less than two weeks for art lovers to view the current exhibits by award-winning artists.

The museum offers an average of thirty temporary shows each year, and the current ones features a variety of styles and subject matter.

Writers’ Hour Featured during Customs House Museum’s Annual Women’s History Month Exhibition

Clarksville's Customs House Museum and Cultural CenterClarksville, TN – On March 31st, the Customs House Museum will present a Writers’ Hour event in conjunction with its invitational exhibit celebrating women artists.

Local authors will read from their works that are themed to the museum’s show, In the Garden.

“The museum has held several readings in the past,” states Exhibits Curator Terri Jordan. “It is interesting to hear the variety of poems and stories from our local writers. Often funny, and sometimes sad, the audience is always blown away with the talent we have in the Clarksville area.”

The Annecy France Nun Series by Anne Goetze Debuts at the Customs House Museum

Clarksville's Customs House Museum and Cultural CenterClarksville, TN – The Monestere de la Visitationhon and the small order of nuns who reside there are the subject matter of the new exhibit in the Customs House Museum’s Planters Bank Peg Harvill Gallery.

The artist, Anne Goetze, began going to the Monastery to visit her aunt Helen.
