The system, which was lauded by the Chronicle of Higher Education in the article, “The Netflix Effect: When Software Suggests Students’ Courses,” works similar to sites such as Netflix and Amazon.com by suggesting to students what courses best fit their talents and programs of study. [Read more]

Austin Peay State University VA counselor receives Patriot Award

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – As a Veterans Affairs financial aid counselor at Austin Peay State University, Elizabeth Stonerock was told she had a disgruntled student waiting to see her.

Walking out of her office in the Ellington Building to the lobby to meet with the student, Stonerock immediately was greeted with applause and cheers.

Record numbers of students are wanting to attend Austin Peay State University

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Based on the increased number of applications for the 2012-13 academic year, a record number of students want to attend Austin Peay State University.

So far for the Fall 2012 semester, APSU has admitted 1,365 undergraduate students, compared with 1,127 admitted this time in 2011, which is a 21.1 percent increase.

Dr. Tristan Denley, provost and vice president of academic affairs at APSU, said the rising student interest in APSU can be attributed to many factors, including the greater number of opportunities available to them in and out of the classroom. [Read more]

Austin Peay’s African American Cultural Center to honor fall graduates

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – The African American Cultural Center at Austin Peay State University will honor Fall 2011 African-American graduates during a recognition ceremony Thursday, December 15th.

The ceremony will begin at 6:00pm in the Clement Auditorium on APSU’s main campus. A reception for the graduates and their families will immediately follow the program in the African American Cultural Center located in Clement, Room 120. [Read more]

Austin Peay State University to celebrate 40-year anniversary of the ROTC

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – In 1971, the U.S. Army established at Austin Peay State University the Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) for recruiting, training and commissioning future Army officers.

In the 40 years since, hundreds of cadets have been commissioned at APSU as second lieutenants in the Army. The program also has earned the reputation as one of the nation’s finest, having won several awards for training and management performance standards. In addition, the program has been the best in the nation and had the top cadet in the nation in previous years. [Read more]

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University is featured on the cover of the new AT&T Real Yellow Pages directory serving Clarksville and surrounding communities.

APSU is the first to appear on the Real Yellow Pages’ newly designed cover, which was unveiled November 16th during a public announcement on campus. The photograph depicts the excitement of men’s basketball at APSU, one of 15 sports programs offered by the University.

New Reagan Giving Circle at Austin Peay State University receives $10,000 boost in honor of Marketing Professor

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – For more than a decade, Dr. Carmen Reagan has served on the Delta Dental of Tennessee board of directors, helping the organization to expand across Tennessee.

“We relied on her for her corporate citizenship,” said Tom Perry, chief financial officer and an alumnus of Austin Peay State University. He graduated in 1973, having been a student of Reagan’s in the APSU College of Business.

It was fitting then that Perry presented a $10,000 check from Delta Dental to help jumpstart the new Reagan Giving Circle program. The check presentation was made November 8th during a reception to launch officially the giving program in honor of Reagan.
