Blood bank shortage inspires APSU Health and Human Performance faculty to host blood drive

Clarksville, TN – Blood is desperately needed at Hospitals across Tennessee. Last week, Tennessee Governor Bill Lee called on the state’s residents to help end the blood bank shortage, and even the American Cancer Society is pleading for people to donate because, according to that organization, “blood transfusions save millions of lives in the United States every year.”
APSU School of Nursing donates stethoscopes to Guyana

Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University (APSU) says that earlier this summer, The Stabroek News, “Guyana’s Most Trusted Newspaper Since 1986,” published a story about that country’s nurses needing stethoscopes.
Many of the nurses, working for Guyana’s Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), often have to scrounge for working stethoscopes while examining patients.

Clarksville, TN – When Austin Peay State University nursing student Hunter Burkhart was 8 years old, his dad suffered a heart attack. When Hunter was 9 years old, his dad suffered a stroke.
Those events arrested life for Hunter and his family. They spent weeks in the hospital, caring for his father. The memories will never fade.

Clarksville, TN – One Austin Peay State University School of Nursing student was recently honored for her excellence as she and a number of other Austin Peay nursing students took part in a summer internship program at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC).
Jessica Sheers received the VUMC Credo Award for her work as a maternal/infant track nursing intern during the Summer 2017 term.

Over the summer term of 2017, sixteen Austin Peay nursing students participated in a summer internship program called Vanderbilt Experience: Student Nurse Internship Program (VESNIP) at Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC). Clarksville, TN – Earlier this summer, 16 Austin Peay State University nursing students, along with students from four other regional nursing programs, participated in a prestigious summer internship program called Vanderbilt Experience: Student Nurse Internship Program (VESNIP) at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Harper Greene Benefit Supper and Singing to be held Saturday, April 2nd

Cunningham, TN – On Saturday, April 2nd, 2016, a Benefit Supper and Singing will be held for Harper Greene at Montgomery Central Elementary School from 5:00pm until 8:00pm.
Harper Greene was diagnosed in December, 2015 with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) at the age of 2. He is the son of Nick and Chasidy Greene.

Fundraiser at Hilltop Supermarket for Ashley Travis and Kylie Eastin a Big Success

Clarksville, TN – On Saturday, June 15th at Hilltop Supermarket, a community fundraiser was held for Ashley Travis and Kylie Eastin from 9:00am until 2:00pm. There was a car wash, bake sale, games, inflatables, face painting, fire trucks, food and music.
The event was a huge success as the community came out and banded together to raise $23,280 for the girls.
5 Austin Peay State University Students serve as 2012 Legislative Interns

Clarksville, TN – Five Austin Peay State University students are participating in the 2012 Tennessee Legislative Internship Program in Nashville.
Alison Bright, Tricia Collis, Tiffany Kaschel, Kristen Lawson and Randi Perry are interning for various legislators during the Spring 2012 semester. Interns are assigned to legislative leadership offices and committees, and perform various duties, such as bill analysis, constituent work, research and general office work. [Read more]
